Jalali Hartman said Thursday that prior to working with St. Vrain Valley students, he didn't know what they'd be capable of, but that he was ultimately impressed. He even joked that he has been left wondering why he needs to hire anyone.
Each year students in the St. Vrain Valley School district complete a process to identify students who may qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above their grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and motivation in their strength areas.
The USDA and Colorado Department of Education Office of School Nutrition recently awarded 12 St. Vrain Valley schools with HealthierUS School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms (HUSSC: SL) Bronze Awards.
The HUSSC: SL is a certification initiative that recognizes schools for their efforts in improving food and beverage offerings, teaching kids about nutritious food choices, providing opportunities for physical activity, and having supportive school wellness policies.
On the evening of December 8th, Northridge families poured in to the gym to experience the second annual STEM and Family Fun Night. Students, parents, and teachers alike took part in a variety of engaging and often rigorous activities.
The STEM Student Leadership Team (SSLT) at Northridge started holding their meetings during the month of November. More than twenty 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders met twice this month during lunch to develop empathy and begin to define potential problems and/or issues at Northridge. Students talked together about specific areas around the school, and identified people and existing/potential problems in each setting. The locations they idetified ranged from the soccer field to the front office. Issues included safety, organization, and... *gasp* ...homework!
